Look who Swirled by the Studio

It's always nice to have visitors come to the Swirly Studio. It's a great way for us to really get the studio clean and organized. (Don't mind the vacuum cleaner, trying to get it spotless!)
Plus it give us another reason to decorate the studio with seasonal flowers.
The visitor we had the pleasure of finally meeting, after working with her only threw social media for the a few years now, is Iris Weiss from Polyform Products. Which makes our all-time favorite crafting material!
Even though there is two of us working here most of the time, it's always nice to exchange stories and ideas with other creative professionals. It was so nice of Iris to visit our little Swirly studio. We had a wonderful time talking shop, sharing marketing ideas and giving her a peak into our new Sculpey & Swirly Halloween and Christmas Holiday how-to projects coming soon!
Be sure to follow Polyform Products on Facebook and Swirly Designs to stay updated on our upcoming how-to projects.
Also, are you on Instagram? We would love for you to follow us.

Holiday How-to Valentine: Sweet Treat Jar

Love is in full swing here in the Swirly studio.
As Valentine's Day approaches, our work space is adorned with all things lovely! A palette of reds and pinks, the scent of fresh paints and the aroma of yummy sweets greet us each day.

In our first of 2014 how-to series with Sculpey, we created this
really "tweet" Valentine Sweet Treat Jar.  Find the how-to here.
We are tickled pink to be collaborating once again this year with the wonderful folks at Polyform Products creating holiday inspired clay projects.
We have built up a nice collection of how-to projects over the past 4 years, so we thought we needed a good way to keep all these project together under one name. We came up with  Sculpey & Swirly Holiday How-to projects
We have added this logo to the side of the blog, so when you click on it your will
see all of our past Holiday how-tos.
How cute are these? We used baby jars which come in various heights but
the widths are all pretty much standard. Our kids enjoyed a lot of baby apple sauce for this project. ;-)
Once you get the basic steps down from the how-to, you can really create whatever you want as far as colors and subject matter and colors go.
Wouldn't these make perfect baby shower favors or bridal shower gifts?
If you like this project and want to keep seeing Swirly Designs create more holiday inspired how-tos, be sure to visit Polyform Products facebook page and share your thoughts. You can also visit the Swirly Designs facebook page and share your feedback and pictures of your finished Sweet Treat Jars.
Have a Swirly Valentine

Holiday How-to Easter: Bunny Egg Treat Box

The two of us here at Swirly Designs are so happy to be working again this year with Polyform Products. Together we can share with you some wonderful seasonal how-to projects. Our first
project this year is one of our personal favorites. You can create this really sweet and practical
Bunny Egg Treat Box. Find the how-to here. You can fill it with special treats for your kids basket, add it to your holiday centerpiece or even make it the golden prize for your annual egg hunt.

The clay used in this project is called Model Air, air dry clay from Polyform. If you haven't tried it, we would really recommend experimenting with it. It's perfect for this type of project because you don't have to cook your piece and worry about the papier mache egg in your oven. But it is a lot more messier than we are used to working with since we mostly have worked with a cleaner clay like Premo for our own designs. That did take a little time getting use to. We kept a spray bottle and roll of paper towels with in hands reach so we could keep our hands clean.... but  you know it's good to get messy especially when you're in your creative groove.
Our project shows how to make feet for your bunny egg, but we also created a few without feet. On those we just decoupaged the bottom half of the egg with colored tissue paper, paint mini flowers and added a dusting of glitter. These work great to compliment your footed bunny. They also work if you plan on keeping them in a basket because they tend to be a little top heavy and roll over without the feet support.

Let your creativity go crazy and paint your bunny to fit your own holiday decor.

These are all the versions of the bunny egg we created for this how-to project. Once we made one they just started muiltiplying. :-)
The bigger the papier mache egg you choose to use in this project the more treats they can hold.
If you like this project and want to keep seeing Swirly Designs create more, be sure to visit Polyform Products facebook page and share your thoughts. You can also visit the Swirly Designs facebook page and share your feedback and share pictures of your finished Bunny Egg Treat Box.
Have a fun and Swirly Easter!

and once you figure out the basic steps you can let your creativity go wild. You can even add little hearts to your penguins and change out the snow sign for your special Valentine.
